Modern Solutions for a Timeless Wedding Venue Mitchell & Bond Install Plumbing and Heating Systems at Tyn Dwr Hall

Tyn Dwr Hall, an exquisite Grade II listed building built by Iron Master John Dicken in the early 1800s, stands near the picturesque town of Llangollen. Purchased by Matt Jones, Managing Director of Knights Construction Group in 2015, the estate underwent a substantial renovation to transform it into an award-winning wedding venue.

With the Welsh Government’s historic environment service (CADW) guidance, Mitchell & Bond were tasked with modernising the plumbing and heating systems while preserving the hall’s historical features.

The Scope of Work

Since the initial refurbishment of Tyn Dwr Hall in 2016, Mitchell & Bond have carried out significant alterations to the venue, starting with the plant room, modifying it to accommodate new central heating zones and additional hot water capacity.

These changes ensured the venue could handle the high demand for heating and hot water, which is essential for guest comfort, especially during peak wedding seasons.

New pipework was then installed to service the radiators, bathrooms, communal toilets, staff areas, and the new bar area. This upgrade improved the efficiency and reliability of water distribution, ensuring all facilities operated smoothly. These enhancements were crucial for maintaining the high standards expected by guests.

Pipework was next installed for three en-suite bathrooms, including roll-top baths and radiators, along with the renovation of existing en-suites. These upgrades provided luxurious amenities in line with the venue’s high-end appeal, enhancing guest satisfaction and bolstering the venue’s reputation.

The male, female, and disabled toilets were also modernised, ensuring up-to-date facilities. This renovation provided accessibility and comfort for all guests, which is a key factor in the venue’s inclusive service offering.

Underfloor heating and bar area installations were completed in the new function room. These additions created a comfortable and inviting environment in the new function space, enhancing the overall guest experience during events.

The entire hall was fitted with new heating systems, hot, cold, and waste pipework, along with the installation of 4x 300L unvented cylinders fed from a break tank and booster pump set. These reliable and efficient heating and plumbing systems were critical for uninterrupted service, maintaining the venue’s operational excellence and guest comfort year-round.

A complete installation of heating, hot, cold, and waste pipework was carried out in the staff office block conversion, including a new boiler, kitchen areas, toilets, and a shower room. This provided a comfortable and functional workspace for staff, ensuring operational efficiency and high-quality service delivery.

Working with other contractors seamlessly, the cottage was transformed from a ruin into a 3-bed self-catered B&B, complete with a new combi boiler, full re-pipe, heating system, bathroom, cloakroom, kitchen, and radiators. This renovation added a new revenue stream with premium accommodation options, enhancing the venue’s appeal and profitability.

A new toilet block was built for the luxury riverside yurts, including a boiler, unvented cylinder, toilets, showers, urinals, wash basins, and radiators. This expansion of the venue’s accommodation offerings provided unique and luxurious options, attracting a broader range of clientele.
